LighChat Children Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-07 Applies to: all LighChat clients (web, desktop, mobile).

1. Age threshold

LighChat is intended for users who are 16 years of age or older. The Service is not intended for users under 16.

2. Compliance

This policy is designed considering:

• 152-FZ (RF): processing of minors' data requires legal guardian consent;
• GDPR Art. 8 (EU): self-consent age — 16 (member states may lower to 13);
• COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, US): additional restrictions for users under 13;
• Russian Federal Law No. 436-FZ "On Protection of Children from Information Harmful to Their Health and Development".

3. Age verification

At registration the user:

• provides a date of birth;
• confirms being at least 16.

If the Operator has reasonable grounds to believe a user is under 16, it may restrict or terminate access.

4. What we do not do

• show ads to minors;
• use minors' data for targeted advertising;
• share minors' data with third parties for marketing.

5. If a user under 16 is identified

Upon parent/guardian request or self-discovery, the Operator:

• immediately blocks the account;
• deletes related data within 30 days;
• notifies the requestor of the outcome.

6. Protection from harmful content

• block and report tools (see Content Moderation Policy);
• ability to limit communication scope (contacts, blacklist);
• secret E2EE chats with auto-deletion;
• parental controls (planned for future versions).
