Acceptable Use Policy
LighChat Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
Last updated: 2026-08-03 Version: 2
This Policy is part of the Terms of Service and states the rules everyone using LighChat must follow. It is also our community standard for the purposes of app-store requirements.
1. The principle
Use LighChat lawfully, responsibly, and with respect for other people. What is illegal offline is illegal here.
2. Strictly prohibited
2.1 Illegal content and activity
- child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any sexualisation of minors — zero tolerance, reported to NCMEC;
- terrorism, violent extremism, incitement to violence;
- trafficking in drugs, weapons, people or other illegal goods and services;
- promotion or facilitation of suicide, self-harm or eating disorders;
- hate speech targeting race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity.
2.2 Harm to other people
- harassment, stalking, credible threats;
- doxing — publishing another person's private information without consent;
- non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) and threats to publish it ("sextortion");
- impersonation of another person or organisation;
- fraud, deception and financial scams.
2.3 Attacks on the Service
- denial-of-service attacks against our infrastructure;
- exploiting vulnerabilities outside the terms of our Security Policy;

- attempting to access other users' accounts or data;
- circumventing technical protections, rate limits or app attestation.
2.4 Abuse and manipulation
- spam and unsolicited bulk messaging;
- automated activity and bot accounts that are not clearly labelled as such;
- scraping or bulk collection of user data;
- creating accounts to evade a block or a suspension;
- artificially inflating engagement.
2.5 Intellectual property

- trademark infringement and counterfeit goods.
2.6 Export controls and sanctions
- using the Service from a comprehensively sanctioned country or region, or while listed on a U.S. restricted-party list (see Section 10 of the Terms of Service).
3. Adult content
Lawful adult content between consenting adults is permitted only in private one-to-one and group conversations. It is prohibited in profiles, avatars, usernames, group names and icons, in meetings open to guests, and anywhere content is exposed to an unlimited audience.
4. Consequences
Depending on severity and history: warning, content removal, feature restriction, temporary suspension, permanent termination, and — where the law requires or life is at risk — referral to law enforcement. Repeat copyright infringers are terminated under the DMCA Policy.
Enforcement decisions can be appealed under the Content Moderation Policy.
